Interview with Alex of Sailboards Miami
According to Ovidio of Sailboards Miami, his employee Alex is “Miami’s most improved windsurfer of the year” and Ovidio would know. Below is a quick interview. Judging by his answers, Alex is a bit too modest, but he’s still young and it will pass.
Q: How long have you been windsurfing?
A: I started windsurfing in December 2006.
Q: What attracted you to windsurfing, especially since your own brother turned to the ‘dark side’?
A: I use to hang out with my brother while he kited so he had someone to launch him. After spending hours at the beach watching him kite, I figured it was the best way to sail with him and not compete against him in the same sport.
Q: What’s your current favorite sail/board combo?
A: A 5.8 sail with my 114L board
Q: Favorite move you’ve mastered, and what’s on your wish list?
A: Planning is the only thing I’ve really mastered at the moment. I’m mostly into freeride right now and hoping my jibes get smoother.
Q: What would you advice to someone just getting into windsurfing?
A: Take lessons with beginner gear. Be smart with your money find out what gear works best in the area for the most days on the water.
Q: Funny or unusual thing that happened to you while you were windsurfing?
A: Getting laughed at by beach goers, after getting catapulted close to shore at Virginia Key.
