I’ve been ridding the Rickenbacker Causeway since 1983. I usd to love this ride and used to call it my playground. Now, after the City decided to “improve” it, I find that thy have killed it! No more beautiful shade ridding my bike on the beach on low tide. No more rollerblading as the city decided to put brick pavers throughout the entire now confined road. No more sitting under a tree (even if the Australian pines were exotics, it was better than the Sabal Palms)on a calm morning or hot afternoon.
Now instead my stomach churns with sadness as I pedal fast unable to even look at the travestry that the City has done with what used to be one of the last natural, non cemented rides we had in Miami.
I dont know how this was approved or how I never found out about it until it was too late.
And now I see the signs on the north side of the road. Are they going to chop all the trees as well? And then pour scorching hot cement throughout this side too? Why are they doing this? This is NOT an improvement for pedestrians, sunday picnickers, ridders, rollerbladers and families! Did they do this so the drivers can look at a nice scene?
Its disgusting. Way to go Miami Dade! You’ve killed yet another beautiful place. My entire body shivvers at the thought of what they will do in Virginia Key.
