Where to sail the NW winds this weekend in South FL (Jan 10)

Post by mprieto » Fri Jan 08, 2010 5:52 pm

Where do we go to avoid offshore-gusty conditions with the NW forecast we have this weekend in So Florida?

Jupiter? West Coast? Does anybody sail any of the many lakes in the area (hey alligator! )?

Any other recommendations?

You can head down to the middle or lower Keys. There are a few spots with access to the gulf side. Tea Table/Indian Key was the old favorite.

Thanks VA12, I was leaning towards the keys but it ended up being a bit to miserable out there that weekend and I never made it to the keys. Hoping Sun the 24 will be a day of sailing!

I was there not long ago geared up and chasing a good forecast, but the wind had other plans. Will be back and zero in on this exact location. Thanks!

Would you launch on either side of the road depending on wind direction? Any fin threats?

M,

We only sailed there on NW winds, so would always launch on the north side. Don't remember much about fin threats, but this was back in the day and fins weren't so long.

Good luck with it.
