US Sailing Junior Olympic Windsurfing Festival
July 7-9, 2006
Sail Martha’s Vineyard

The East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championship, a US Sailing Junior Olympic Festival Event, will be held in the Lagoon and/or Vineyard Haven Harbor on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 7-9, 2006. Sail Martha’s Vineyard (“SMV”) is the Organizing Authority. Course racing is planned for July 7 & 8 for competitiors under 19. The Vineyard Cup Long Distance Race, sailed in Vineyard Haven Harbor and Vineyard Sound, will be held July 9th for all ages.

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and the Sailing Instructions.

July 7, 8 2006
All competitors must be under 19 years of age (have not reached their birthday prior to December 31, 2006) and must be members of US Sailing. The competition will be held on Techno 293 One Designs. Open rigs are permitted under the following USWA prescriptions for the Techno 293 class below.
Under 11 (U11) years old - Maximum sail size 5.0m
Under 13 (U13) years old - Maximum sail size 6.5m
Under 15 (U15) years old - Maximum sail size 7.5m
Under 17 (U17) years old - Maximum sail size 8.5m
Under 19 (U19) years old - Maximum sail size 9.5m
A minimum of three competitors is necessary to constitute an age group class. Otherwise, age groups will be combined.

July 9, 2006- Vineyard Cup Sound Race
No age restrictions. The competition will be held on Techno 293 One Designs for the above age groups. There is also an Unlimited Class (disregard the restrictions below) for all others.

2.1a Per Techno 293 class rules as modified by USWA, sails with more than 3 cambers and/or 7 battens are prohibited
2.1b Only masts from the approved class list with no more than 75 percent carbon and weight equivalents are permitted.
2.1c Booms are restricted to alloy/aluminum construction – note that carbon booms are not permitted under class rules
2.1d Only original fins or manufacturers’ replacements permitted. The maximum fin size under class rules is 46 cm.
2.1e Techno 293 Class Rules are available at Sail sizes have been modified by USWA prescriptions.

2.1 Techno 293 One Design Boards and rigs are available for charter, contact Event Chair. You are welcome to bring your own boards and/or rigs.

4.1 Entry Fee for Registrations postmarked or received by June 30th - $75
Entry Fee for Registrations postmarked or received after June 30th - $90
4.2 Entry fee includes registrtation to the regatta July 7, 8, and the Vineyard Cup Sound Race July 9th, a regatta T-shirt, Lunch July 7 and 8th, and the BBQ July 7th.
4.3 Vineyard Cup Windsurfing Long Distance Race July 9th is additonal $20 and $35 for new registrants not participating July 7-8.

Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Sail Martha’s Vineyard website,, and available at the Sail MV boathouse beginning June 30, 2006.

7.1 Sail Martha’s Vineyard Boathouse at the Sailing Camp Park in Oak Bluffs off Barnes Road.
7.2 Racing will be in the Lagoon Pond and/or Vineyard Haven Harbor, or otherwise stated in the Sailing Insructions.

The course will be described in the Sailing Instructions.

9.1 The Low-Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A, will be used.
9.2 All competitors will have one race discarded when six races have been completed.
9.3 2 races are required to complete the regatta.

Prizes will be awarded to competitors placing first through third in all divisions.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. Sail Martha’s Vineyard, its employees, volunteers and staff will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.


A limited amount of housing in private homes is available to competitors in the East Coast Windsurfing Championships on a first come first serve basis.
