Broward County

Hollywood BEach
Conditions:

Open ocean and wave sailing. This spot is good on easterly winds from North to South. Small sandbar offshore offers little protection from shorebreak. Waves can be fair to very good but are generally best on strong east wind days.

Launch:

The launch is located at a boat ramp with an adjacent water sports concession and kitesurfing school. Launch area is small and can get crowded with sailboats, catamarans, jet skis, kitesurfers and beach goers

During the week, you can usually park on the boat ramp directly off A1A. On weekends, you should park at the adjacent parking lot ($6 per day before 6 p.m., $3 after 6).

Recommended Ability Level:

Because of moderate wave and shore break and due often crowded conditions, Hollywood beach requires at least an Intermediate sailing ability level. You should be confident in deep-water starting and have had experience in launching and returning through whitewater and breaking waves.

Directions:

From I-95, take the Sheridan Street exit east to the beach. Make a left at A1A and go 5 blocks north to Pershing Street. Drive an additional block along the beach (Surf Rd.) to get to Meade Street.
